Application Overview
Anaesthetics CT1 and ACCS Anaesthetics are recruited together through Oriel by the Anaesthetics National Recruitment Office, hosted by NHS England West Midlands. One application covers both.
Format and marks below are taken from ANRO's published applicant guidance. ANRO publishes each round's guidance and scoring matrix before the application window opens.
Confirmed 2027 dates
- Applications open — 10am, Thursday 22 October 2026
- Applications close — 4pm, Thursday 19 November 2026
- National interview window — Monday 11 January to Friday 2 April 2027
- Initial offers — by 5pm, Tuesday 6 April 2027
These are the national Round 1 dates. Anaesthetics' own MSRA and interview dates within that window are published by ANRO before the application window opens; in the 2026 round the MSRA ran 6–19 January and interviews 25 February to 13 March.
There is no self-assessment
Part 3 of the application form was removed for CT1. Degrees, prizes and courses are no longer scored at application. If you are reading guidance that tells you to complete a self-assessment, it is either out of date or about ST4 entry, where self-assessment does still apply.
One warning about older sources: a Royal College of Anaesthetists news page describing a single-station interview still ranks highly in search. It dates from 2022 and is contradicted by current ANRO guidance.
Top Tips
- Work from ANRO's own applicant guidance — it is published in full before each window and is unusually detailed.
- Diarise 22 October and 19 November 2026; the window is four weeks.
